Blog Challenge: I Haven't Done One of These in a While.

The Challenge: If you could dedicate a day to a good cause, what would it be, and what would the day consist of?

To answer this, I thought for about ten minutes straight about what means a lot to me. The first thing I thought about was my family, but then I realised that there's already Mother's Day and Father's Day, and well we really don't need another commercial holiday. I considered a lot of things after that - Nerdfighteria, a Harry Potter day, a day of the dead sort of thing to commemorate those who have left us, plus loads more, but none of them seemed possible and most of my ideas had been done already, so I guess they were never my ideas anyway. But thinking more about what it means to be me, I recalled this photo, which coincidentally I posted on Facebook just hours previously.

In the files on my computer, I called this photo "Vital to life". I know that I've gone on and on throughout various posts on this blog about how much I value individuality and how nobody else's opinion should matter as long as you're happy with yourself, so I'm not going to do yet another version here. But this picture really does mean a lot to me. First off, I love the design, and the image itself has beautiful meaning even without the quote. I don't want to ramble on about this, so I'm going to leave this explanation here and let you make up your own opinion on it, and get on with my challenge.

My day would be a charity day, orientated to get people to admit who they really are inside. If an old woman wanted to be a dancer for a day, the charity would find a way to make it happen for her. If a person wants to come out to the world, this would be an ideal opportunity. They could just wake up in the morning and be themselves. In schools and workplaces, people would wear what they want to wear, be exactly who they want to be, and if they want to carry on being that person forever, then that's who they'll be. I know there are so many flaws in this plan, but this is just what I'd want in an ideal world. I want a world where people can be who they want to be without being judged.

The following song seemed fitting. Either way, there's always time for a bit of REM.
